Thelma Ruth Young Obituary (1932 - 2016)

Thelma "Sis" Ruth Young was born on August 22, 1932, in Columbia, South Carolina, to the late Fannie Hill Jones. She attended school in South Carolina until joining her mother in the District of Columbia during her teen years. She later attended and graduated from Cardoza High School in DC. Once settled here, she joined Canaan Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and also served as a diligent usher. She married the late Adell Young and had one daughter, Saundra. She completed 35 years of devoted service to the Accounting Department under the administrations of Mayors Walter Washington, Marian Berry, and Sharon Pratt Kelly. Once retired she thoroughly enjoyed the company of family and friends. She was a fun loving person who always wore a genuine smile but said what she meant and meant what she said. Sis exemplified the passion we should all live our lives with. Her dedication to helping others was admired by so many people, especially her family. She inspired others to do what they love and take advantage of the things that others took for granted. The support that she gave pushed those who knew her to go after higher education and use their talents to help others. Perhaps her best quality was her work ethic; she would always go the extra mile to make sure everything was in order (if it wasn't you can believe that you would hear about it). She will be greatly missed and forever remembered for the example she set for all of us. We will always love you; until we meet again. She leaves to mourn her daughter, Saundra Boujai (Carlton); granddaughters, Maya Frazier (Lamar), Katrina Shipp (Eric), and Nedra Boujai; grandson, Carlton Boujai III (lovingly know as Tre'); one great granddaughter, Imani Aundra Kennedy; and two great grandsons, Lamar Frazier Jr. (LJ) and Ethan Shipp.
