Robert (Bobby) Douglas Magruder, Sr. departed this world on Tuesday, September 12, 2012.Born, January 3, 1936, Bobby, as he was affectionately called, was the son of the late Albert Leon (Josh) and Bernice Magruder. Bobby graduated from Robert Moten High School, Westminster, MD and attended the University of Maryland.After serving in the US Army for several years, Bobby worked at Ft. Detrick as an aerobiologist and retired after more than 35 years of service. While at Ft. Detrick, he worked on the research team that studied Legionnaires disease and was recognized for his contributions.Following his retirement he worked part-time at Jeanne Buzzard. An avid sportsman, Bobby was known for his competitive spirit.He loved playing softball and horseshoes.He earned the nickname of 'Speedy' because he could run so fast. Bobby loved watching all sports on television, good music and dancing. But, the joy of his life was spending time with his family just laughing and having a good time.Known for his kind and warm spirit, Bobby touched many lives and was the 'life of the party.' Bobby is survived by his two children, Tracie Boney, Frederick, MD and Robert Magruder, Jr. and his wife Denise of Sykesville, MD; two grandchildren, Tia Magruder, Worthington, Ohio and Tyler Magruder, Sykesville, MD; four sisters, Shirley Magruder,Westminster, MD; Jean Harris, Frederick, MD; Barbara Magruder, Silver Spring, MD;Kathleen Horsey, Baltimore, MD; three brothers, John (Sonny) Magruder, Baltimore, MD;Tommy Magruder andAllen Magruder (Pat) both of Westminster, MD.In addition he is survived by the mother of his children Gwendolyn Magruder, Frederick, MD; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a devoted friend Rick Clayton, Frederick, MD. He was preceded in death by a son Kevin Magruder; sisters Peggy Cooper, Janet Lucas and Dolores Hyson and a brother Jerry Magruder. Homegoing services will be held Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Jackson Chapel UMC, 5609 Ballenger Creek Pike, Frederick, MD 21703.
