Phillip E. "Phil" Bowie Obituary (1939 - 2012)

Phillip Eugene (Phil) Bowie, 71, of Frederick, MD passed away on Monday, August 27, 2012 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Born November 1, 1939 in Frederick, MD, the son of the late Charles Calvin Bowie, Sr. andMonterey M. Bowie.Phillip was the husband of Carleen L. Bowie for 33 years. He was a 1957 graduate of Lincoln High School, and was employed with the Frederick County School Board for 49 years.He was a lifetime member of St. James A.M.E. Church of Frederick.He enjoyed hosting friends and family in his home.His joy was loving and providng for his family.His greatest hobby was carpentry - "give him a hammer and some nails and he could build it."On any given day, you could find him tipping around the yard, wearing his hat while doing landscaping work, painting, or chatting with his buddy across the street.After a full day's work, he would finally settle down in his blue recliner, with remote in hand, switching from sports channel to sports channel...until the channel was watching him. Besides his wife Carleen, he is survived by his daughter, Robin Silvera of New York; stepdaughter, April Bowins of Bowie, MD; two sons Phillip Carroll and wife Denise Carroll of Oklahoma, and Phillip Bowie Jr.; stepson, Larry Bowins and wife Dana Bowins of Georgia; two sisters, Barbara Bowens, and husband Antonio Bowens, Jennifer L. Hall, and husband Willis B. Hall Jr.; four brothers, Charles C. Bowie, Jr., Donald L. Bowie and wife Vivian M. Bowie, Michael A. Bowie, Sr., and wife Audrey A. Bowie and Stanley B. Bowie. Phillip was pre-deceased by his sister, Monterey J. (Sis) Bowie. Homegoing services will be held Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012 at Jackson Chapel UMC, 5609 Ballenger Creek Pike, Frederick, MD 21703.
