Paul N. Bowie Obituary (1932 - 2020)

Paul N. Bowie, Sr., 88, of Frederick, MD, went home to be with his Lord and Savior and was reunited with his beloved wife, Dot, on Monday, June 22, 2020. Born March 30, 1932 in Bartonsville (aka Jugbridge) Frederick, MD. He was the son of the late Walter S. and Cora Lee Diggs Bowie. He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy Mae Bowie. They lived and raised their family on Phebus Ave., South Market St. and, finally, 108 McMurray Street. They were happily married for 63 years before her passing on February 2, 2020. Paul attended Lincoln High School. He left school to work on Hargett Farm in Bartonville. He served in the U.S. Army and worked on the railroad. He worked at Fort Detrick and continued working for the federal government at NIH for over 30 years as a Bio Lab Technician. While at NIH, he worked with world renowned investigators on the studies of Interferon. After retiring in May 1987, he worked part-time for Walter King Heating and Plumbing. He was a member of St. James AME Church, serving as Trustee and Sunday School bus driver for many years. Paul, affectionately known as Dad, Pops, Granddad, and Uncle Paul, loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. He loved watching wrestling, soap operas, Westerns, Andy Griffith, and Family Feud. Paul was a die-hard Baltimore Orioles and Dallas Cowboys fan. Granddad/Uncle Paul was the best Sunday School driver. He had the patience of Job (for all the Sunday school kids who were never ready on time), not to mention he bought the best doughnuts! He loved to fish, clean the fish, and prep it for Grandmum to fry or make carp loaf. Granddad loved to drive to Eric's (Festival Liquors) to play his lottery numbers. He was always prepared to give anyone a ride to and from work, including strangers (hitchhikers). He leaves to cherish his memory his: children, Linda Duckett (Willie), Paulette Bowie, Bonnie Sneed (Edward), Brenda Bowie, Anthony Bowie, Michelle Dorsey, and Sarah Bowie; 17 grandchildren, Lynne, Nicki, Kashena (Jason), Tameka, Krisma, Juwan (Trinity), Alan Jr., Durrell, Markia, Ryan, Ronika, Erik, Anthony Jr., Nathaniel, Brendel, Dontrell, and Patrick; 34 great-grandchildren, Kordarus, Nakea, Kavonte, Nakiya (Mory), Jae'shon, Kwaveon, NaQuasia, Troniqua, Rayshaun, Cortae, Jason Jr., Anazje, Saniya, Gayon, Gionni, Maurice, Syriah, Nyyima, Jakera, Aniyah, Carlito, Durrell Jr., Savant, Indie, Semaj, Yahnir, Uriyan, Selah, Nathaniel Jr., Skye, Monie, Jamauri, Skylar, and Jordan; 6 great great grandchildren, Elijah, Naimen, Cassius, Zion, Cali, and Micah; siblings, Celestine Dixon, Gilbert Bowie (Betty), Ellen Ray, and William Bowie (Veronica); special niece, Ruthann Diggs (Mike); godchild, Matthew Diggs; and a host of family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy M. Bowie; children, Yvonne Bowie, Paul Bowie, Jr. and Larry Carter; brothers, Spencer Bowie, Charles (Buck) Bowie, Sr., Walter Bowie, and Gerald Bowie; sisters, Louise Weedon, Catherine Haynesworth and Edna Diggs; and special son, Jerome "Wheatmoe" Thomas.
