Luther Ray Obituary (1937 - 2012)

Mr. Luther 'Luke' James Ray, 75, went to be with the Lord on June 13, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 34 years,Patricia 'Pat' Elizabeth Ray.They lived in Walkersville, MD. Born January 26, 1937, in Grey Court, SC, Luke was the son of the late Toby & Carrie Ray of Grey Court, SC. Surviving are three children: daughter Terri Ray of Walkersville, MD, son Kip Brown of Germantown, MD, and stepson Steven Harper Jr. and wife Barbara of Dewittville, NY; one grandaughter, Morgan Brown of Germantown, MD; one grandson, Dominick Resto-Harper of West Chester, PA; five sisters, Virginia Hampton of Grey Court, SC, Dorothy McNair of Hampton, VA, Elizabeth Phelps of Woodruff, SC, Levonia Thompson of Lawrence, SC, and Nellie Young of Greensville, SC; one brother, Paul Ray of Fountain Inn, SC; and one sister-in-law, Ellen Ray of Bartonsville, MD. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Luke was preceded in death by one sister, Sarah Duckett of Hampton, VA, and three brothers: William Ray Sr., of Frederick, MD, Lemon Ray of Lackey, VA, and Tobias 'June' Ray of Woodruff, SC.Luke will also be remembered by long time and close friends Robert 'Griff' Griffin Sr. and Isaac Wilkes, both of Frederick, MD. A public viewing will be held on Sunday, June 17 from 3 to 5 PM at the Gary L. Rollins Funeral Home, 110 West South St., Frederick. On Monday, June 18, a wake will be held at 10 AM, followed by funeral services at 11 AM at Quinn Chapel AME Church, 106 E. 3rd St., Frederick, MD.
