Imogene Cornelia Brown Obituary (1925 - 2018)

Imogene Brown, age 92, transitioned to Glory on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at Kline's Hospice in Mt. Airy, MD. She was born September 15, 1925, in Hopehill, MD to the late John Edward and Addie Mary Lee Carroll. She was married to the late Earl Douglas Brown for 44 years. Imogene began her education at Hopehill Elementary School and attended Lincoln High School. She worked various jobs after high school. She then made her career as a Nursing Assistant and retired from the Frederick County Health Department. Her road to salvation began at Hopehill United Methodist Church. She later transferred her membership to Asbury United Methodist, under the pastoral leadership of Reverend John Ford. It was at Asbury that she sang on several choirs, served on the usher board and was a member of the Golden Connection. Not only did she serve in the church, but she also served her community through her various memberships in local organizations. Imogene was a member of Madame C.J. Walker Temple #509 of Elk, Eastern Star #2, and the American Legion Post #11. A spry nonagenarian, she was recognized as a Living Treasure by AARCH in 2015. Imogene is survived by her: daughter, Clementine "Cookie" Myers of Frederick, MD; sister, Corinthia Brown (Charles) of Frederick, MD; brother, Norman L. Carroll (Viola) of Frederick, MD; three grandchildren, Erlene Adams (Anthony) of Huntsville, AL, Troy Bowie of Hagerstown, MD, and Monty Myers (Jennifer) of Frederick, MD; 10 great-grandchildren, Aisha Bowie and Deaundre and Calijah Paugh of Hagerstown, MD, Natalia Scott of Los Angeles, CA, Nekhai, Nigel and Nequoia Adams of Huntsville, AL, Amber and Anthony Myers of Walkersville, MD, and Justin Myers of Frederick, MD; brother-in-law, Bernard Brown (Ruth) and a host of devoted nieces, nephews and cousins. "A friend loves at all times..." (Proverbs 17:17a). In addition to her family's love, Imogene had many friends who loved and supported her too. Lifelong friends were Ann Oram, Betty Jean Goines and Katherine Moore. Church sisters and supporters included DeVese Beverly, Rose Chaney, Bonnie Swann, Kathleen Wars, Connie Dickerson, Catherine Brown, Iva Wright, Virginia Carroll, and Paula Moore. Imogene was preceded in death by: daughter, Leona "Loni" Duckett; grandson, Thirston "Noodles" Bowie, Jr; six sisters, Luvenia Proctor, Annie Waites, Dorothy Wallace, Katie Gray, Marie Helen, and Helen Marie Carroll; five brothers, John E. Overs, James H. Carroll, John A. Carroll, Daniel Carroll, and Deacon David E. Carroll; and a godson, Dwight A. Brown. A public viewing will be held Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at 9:30 a.m. with the funeral services immediately following at 11:00 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, 101 W.
