Ethel Geneva "Babe" Cooper Obituary (1924 - 2018)

Ethel Geneva "Babe" Cooper, 93, was called home to be with the Lord on January 16, 2018, at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, MD. She was born January 17, 1924, to the late Helen and Carson Brooks, of Union Bridge, MD, and was the wife of the late Clarence Alton Cooper. Ethel, better known as "Babe," attended Robert Moten High School in Carroll County and graduated in 1942. After that she earned a degree in Nursing at the Provident Hospital School of Nursing, in Baltimore. She then went on to become a laboratory technician with Linton Bionetics at Fort Detrick and finished her career at Homewood Retirement Centers, in Frederick. She and her husband Clarence, operated several local establishments including; The Cozy Corner, Harleys, and the Teen Center in Frederick. Babe was also an avid sports fan and loved her Washington Redskins and Baltimore Orioles. Ethel aka Babe, Mom, Duchess, Nanny, Nanny Kool-Aid, Aunt Babe, Babalicious, and whatever other endearing names she was called, was a pillar in the Frederick community, and the matriarch of her beloved family. She was truly a living treasure, always giving to her family, friends and co-workers. She loved to bowl and was a member of the Ft. Detrick Bowling League for many years. Ethel leaves to cherish her memory: her children; Helen "Susie" Fossett, Clarence Cooper Jr. (Trejetta), Janet Gaines (Rico); 6 grandchildren, Debra Onasanya, Talmadge Fossett (Marybeth), Sheila Fossett, Jamol Cooper (Teresa), Kevin Jackson, and Manuel Cuttino; 19 great-grandchildren, 32 great-great-grandchildren; a devoted niece Sherry Bowie (Tyrone); and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Ethel was preceded in death by: brothers, Roland, Herbert and Leroy Brooks; sisters, Catherine Brooks; Marion Brooks, Alto Clark; grand-daughter, Kiona Cooper-Goodwin; grandson, Dominique Smallwood and special daughter Saundra Brooks-Davis. A public viewing will be held Friday, January 19, 2018 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Gary L. Rollins Funeral Home, 110 W. South Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 20 at Jackson Chapel United Methodist Church, 5609 Ballenger Creek Pk., Frederick, with the family receiving friends at 12 noon and the funeral at 1 p.m. Internment will immediately follow service at Fairview Cemetery.
