Ellis Theodore Hackett Obituary (1915 - 2013)

Mr. Ellis Theodore Hackett, 98 years old, of Dickerson, MD went home to be with the Lord, October 2, 2013 at Citizens Nursing home. He was the husband of the late Margaret Gertrude Moore-Hackett for 50 years. Born on September 21, 1915 in Montgomery County he was the son of the late Flave and Katie Hackett. Mr. Hackett was employed at the Naval Medical Research Institute for over 36 years and in 1971 earned a certificate of recognition for the accumulation of more than 1000 hours earned in sick leave, which was presented to him by the Commanding Officer for making an important contribution to the successful operation of the facility. He was also employed by Montgomery County Railroad and Fort Detrick in Frederick, MD for 20 years. The greatest moment on this earth was when he met the love of his life, his wife Gertrude. He was a member of West Montgomery United Methodist Church in Dickerson and truly loved God. He was also a member for over 50 years of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall F&AM State of Maryland and Jurisdiction Lodge. He was raised as a Master Mason in Fredericktonian Lodge #12, where he elevated to the 32nd degree in Western Maryland Consistory #270, and created a Shriner in Anwar Temple #219, where his title included Past Master. Mr. Hackett loved to hunt squirrels and rabbits and appreciated a good old fashioned homemade custard pie as his favorite food. Anyone who knew Mr. Hackett expected him to shake your hand and say "Give me five and keep five for yourself," a gesture that became his trademark. Surviving Mr. Hackett are grandchildren; Andre Moore (Kendra) of Hagerstown, MD, Cindy Johnson (Kenzie) of WV, Tanya Gardner of Germantown, MD, Gail West and Denise Bowie of Frederick, MD, great-grandchildren; Chance, Malea, Zoey, Logan, Asyah, and Kimani, devoted sister-in-law; Ms. Phyllis Moore, nephews; John and Vincent Moore of Frederick, MD, nieces; Paula Moore, of Frederick MD and Dorothy Randolph (Ronnie) of Dickerson, MD, and a host of cousins. Mr. Hackett was preceded in death by son, Edward "Billy" Moore, and brother, Ervin Hackett. On Thursday, October 10, 2013, at 10 a.m., the family will receive friends at West Montgomery United Methodist Church, 21000 Beallsville Road, Dickerson, MD, 20842.
