Donald Claude Blaine, 80, was peacefully called home to the Lord from his home in Frederick, MD, on Jan. 28, 2013. Donald was born on February 14, 1932, in Newark, NJ, to Dorothy Threadgill and William Blaine.
He grew up in Newark, NJ and graduated from South Side High School in 1950. After high school, Donald joined the US Army and served actively and via the Reserves for four years; during which he bravely served our country in the Korean War. Donald began working at age 8, selling vegetables from a horse and buggy, with his two older brothers, throughout Newark. During high school, he worked part time at a local Army-Navy store, also located in Newark. After serving his country in the Army, Donald was a valued employee at the American Can Company until they closed their doors in 1962. Later that year, Donald opened Blaine’s Limousine Service and was a successful entrepreneur. He grew his fleet of limousines and catered to weddings, funeral homes, and other elegant events. He became a favorite among the nation’s top entertainers and distinguished persons. Eventually, Donald sold his business and became an employee of both Essex County, NJ and Woody’s Funeral Home in NJ, where he eventually retired after many years of dedicated service. Donald was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church, where he served as a Trustee for over 35 years. Donald married his devoted wife, Barbara Ann Blaine, on October 4, 1969 and they were lovingly married for 43 years.
Donald leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Barbara; three sons, Derrick, Ayele, and Jayson; one sister-in-law, Virginia Perkins; one daughter-in-law, Heather; three beloved grandchildren, Ishmael, Maya and Solomon; and his cherished nieces and nephews, Lisa, Lamont, L’Nai, and Lekhi Bryant.
In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his Aunt Esther, Uncle Wilbur and his brothers, Paul and William (Junior).
